While filing your tax return online, you can choose between two options. You can either file your return manually by taking a printout of the form, or submit it electronically at the Government of India's official Income Tax website. Here are the details for the same.

OPTION  I ( Manual Return )
1. Complete your ITR 1 / ITR 2 (whichever applicable) forms and take a printout of the same.
2. Sign on the form(s) at relevant spaces mentioned therein.
3. Go to the Income Tax Department  of your jurisdiction and file the return with the concerned ward.
4. Take the receipt from the depositing officer

Option II ( Electronic Return )
1. Complete your ITR 1 / ITR 2 (whichever applicable) forms and generate an XML of the same by clicking on the 'Generate XML' option.
2. Visit the official website of the Income Tax Department of the Government Of India
3. Get registered and create an account using your PAN card number.
4. Login to your account and click on the option of e filing.
5. Upload your ITR XML file on the website.
6. A receipt by the name of form V would be generated. Sign it at the designated spaces.
7. Go to the Income Tax Department  of your jurisdiction and file the return with the concerned ward (Within 15 days of e-filing)
8. Take the receipt from the depositing officer.
