American Express was established in 1850, and was among the first companies to arise
during the rapid westward expansion of the US. In 1882, American Express launched
the money order business which was an instant success. In 1891, it introduced the
world's first travelers' cheque and within a small period of time, it was selling
more than $6 million cheques annually. Currently, the bank is a leading global payments,
network and travel company, committed towards giving quality services to its customers
worldwide.
Apart from this, time and again, the company launches initiatives to address sustainable
tourism aspect of historical sites, and has been delivering aid through the American
Red Cross for more than 50 disasters in 35 countries. Following an era of international
expansion, the company became an entity perhaps best known for its charge card.
