Indian economy is largely dependent on agriculture with 70% of its vast populace still involved in this sector. It is true that many new sectors have evolved now to fuel the fast rising Indian Economy, especially the IT sector, manufcturing, software and BPOs have gained recent prominnce. The Agriculture still stands tall as livelihood option for many. Well then, there is no denying that the government mesures are often more favourbly tilted towards the farmers.
Unfortuntely it is still this sector that suffers the greater losses in terms of its productivity, owing to backwardness in terms of technology in many cases and the absolute dependence on the ntural controls as the rains. This of course, is in stark contrast to the large advancements that the service and manufacturing sectors are making in terms of technological knowhow.
A comprehensive study of the Indian Agriculture would show clearly the losses incurred by the nation in terms of food grains and the other agriculture produce owing to either the raingod being too ngry to bring rainfall, thus inflicting drought, or else being overgenerous with rins ,bringing down uncontrolled floods. In either case the farmer is going to suffer loss of produce.
A very substntial effort can be made in the direction of Cloud seeding to feed rain into the draught hit areas of the country to help farmers to produce a helthy crop per yield. Cloud seeding is a simple technique that involves studying the density of the cloud cover and its ability to bring down rainfall. Suitably rainfall laden cloud is then sprayed with silver iodide, a chemical that condenses the raindrops to levels that would bring down rain. This ofcourse is a complex process, but, none the less helpful method to fight draught in the country.
There are of course other methods too that would help mitigate the draught hit land, cloud seeding is just one such percievable method that can help out in the right direction to boost the agriculture sector and contribute productively towrds the growth of economy
