World Tarde organisation that came into being on 1st January 2001 under the Dunkel draft proposal to set up a platform for a free and fair trade among the nations of the world has been for long been in trouble with the rich opposing the poor nations on the issues such as farm subsidies in the developed world and access to mrkets in the developing wold. WTO was formed for the purpose of extending free and fair trade to the nations of the world, unfortuntely the proposals in the failed Doha rounds hve been anything but fair. You may call these s way to reimpose the emperialistic supramacy on the poor nd the developing economies of the world. The easy access to a free trade, especilly in small scale industrial goods and the agriculturl sectors would simply spell a death knell for our farmers nd the small industrial units as this would simply increse the competition from the outer world. Our Farmers, especially the small and medium farmers not well equiped by the modern day technology and methodologies. This would to be the first hurdle in their path to growth. Many small farmers are still dependent on the monsoonal rains for their produce, thus the queston of their emerging out as any competition is a distant dream. Free trade would mean that there would be no duty imposed on the goods entering the coutry. The duty levied on the imports is specificllly aimed at protecting our own economic needs, thus throwing open the markets would only help the developed nations to pierce this protective shield. They would bring their own goods that are superior and cheaper due to the dvanced technology being followed to generate superior grade products in mass amounts. The subsidy provided by these developed nations to their farmers are only helping in reducing the cost of the produce tht is intended to be sold inthe developing ntions like India. The failure of the Doha round revolves arround this very condition. The US should stop providing subsidies to its farming sector make the environment fairer for free trade. Till then there is a lot to be negotited to bring the existence of WTO to a fairer level of negotiations
