Murugappa Group
The Murugappa Group, headquartered in Chennai, India, is a USD 2.4 billion (Rs 9,582
crore) assemble by 2010 with interests in engineering, abrasives, sanitaryware,
fertilisers, finance, bio-products and plantations. 29 companies run under this
group, out of which eight are listed and incessantly traded on the National Stock
Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange. Together, they have over 28,000 employees.
With 40 units spread across 12 states in India, the Murugappa Group is one of India's
oldest business houses. It has presence in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, South
Africa, UAE, Thailand, and China.
The group is a market leader in India across a lot of products like sanitary ware,
fertilisers, abrasives, automotive chains, car door frames and steel tubes. Some
of the country's best-known brands like BSA and Hercules in bicycles, Parryware
in sanitary ware, Parrys Spirulina and Parrys Beta Carotene in nutraceuticals, Ballmaster
and Ajax in abrasives, Gromor and Paramfos in fertilisers, and lot more fall under
the Murugappa Group.
The group is also the recipient of the Distinguished Family Business Award – 2001
from the International Institute of Management Development (IIMD) in Switzerland.
It is the only business group in Asia to have received this prestigious award.
Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group
